1986
Thornburgh v. American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists (5-4).

The Court strikes down a Pennsylvania law with various requirements and restrictions on abortion. Chief Justice Burger, who had concurred in Roe, states his desire to "re-examine Roe." A bare 5-4 majority still supports Roe.

Also in this year, Chief Justice Warren Burger (anti-choice) retires and Associate Justice William H. Rehnquist (anti-choice) becomes Chief Justice; Rehnquist's seat is filled by Justice Antonin Scalia (anti-choice).
